If you work with a great business web design team, then chances are good that you’re getting mixed messages about search engine optimization lately. That’s because there’s a bit of “Yin and Yang” going on, with a few different priorities and realities competing with one another.
If that sounds confusing, it’s because it is. Here are the three things you really need to know:
1. Search engine optimization is still very important. Current estimates suggest that Google is processing more than 2 billion queries per day. Even though a small percentage of those might be in your area or industry, it’s clear that maintaining a strong search profile is important if you want targeted visitors coming to your website.
2. But, it’s also hard to influence search rankings directly. Even though Google positioning is as important as it ever was, it’s getting harder and harder to influence search rankings directly. That’s because Google doesn’t want to see lots of keywords, junk links, and other obvious attempts to “optimize” your business website. So, the focus has to be on long-term quality and organic growth, not quick fixes.
3. Your position probably isn’t as important as you think. Getting to the first or second page on the major search engines can do a lot to help you grow your business. Beyond that, though, some of the gains probably aren’t as big as you might think. For example, lots of research shows that the fourth position on a results page converts nearly as well as second, and so on. If you have the right product and offer, people will find you.
The bottom line is that search still matters, but not in the same ways that it used to. Having a good business website with lots of links and strong content is your best strategy going forward, and the marketing team at CAYK® can help you build one.
